I was an active teenager involved in sports and in great shape. I remember shooting my mouth off to my father and other neighborhood dads that I would never get out of shape like them. Of course, they smiled and in their infinite wisdom knew what lie ahead for me. I someday too, would be putting hard earned money to “my waist”.
My physical demise was slow and deliberate, beginning in college with full class loads while working full time as a night shift security guard, continuing throughout my early career as a consultant taking actuarial exams.
At 36, I was an out of shape husband, father of three, working long hours with consistent travel. Maybe my fate was sealed, and my glory days of a youthful lean physique were gone. But, I never give up, so I researched the fitness and nutrition literature to learn how to maximize my success within my time constraints.
Through trial and error,I figured out how to re-structure my workouts and diet, making significant progress early on before hitting the wall within a few months.
Through continued reading, I learned about high intensity interval training and appropriate meal portion sizes. With some simple corrections to my workouts and diet, I realized my goal. Throughout my forties and today at 50, I have maintained my level of health and fitness, feeling younger than I did throughout my thirties.
I’m living proof, that it’s never too late regardless of your age or profession, to obtain a great physique along with the health benefit of expected lower future health care costs.
I found my fountain of youth, and so can you.
